We are going to relocate to Lincoln Nebraska. (Beginning of June)
How it happened
We started our second missionary journey by going to support some friends in Lincoln. While there, we were informed that the Mighty Magic Pants – music & entertainment for children – was having auditions. Our friend Ryan Teller is part of the cast. Becky commented a few times that she would love to be part of the Pants. We were told that one of the female members would be leaving and there would be auditions the following week. Becky was encouraged to audition. One of the ladies auditioning had been hand picked to replace the one leaving. Becky was the last to audition. After a couple days of prayer and consideration, Becky got the call. “It’s unanimous, we want you,” They said. In later conversations it was revealed that they were just humoring Becky by letting her try out; they already had the hand picked gal. They told us that after Becky left the room everybody looked at each other and proclaimed Becky the one. Ryan and his wife Tawnya, who were involved in the selection process, said they remained quiet, not wanting to show any bias, but with everyone else talking about how perfectly Becky would fit in, they were able to add to the comments. They all agreed to spend time praying about it before the final decision and releasing the results.
Becky spent an afternoon talking, one on one, to the leader, Mike Mennard. In there talk Becky explained our family ministry. Mike was very impressed and said he was looking for ways to increase and include ministry opportunities to what they were doing. We see a good mesh, marrying, of what God has called our family to, and Mighty Magic Pants.
Since January, following Gods lead, we have been preparing to leave our house – to become full time traveling missionaries – we now understand, in part, what we were preparing for.
We need to sell our house.
We need to purchase an RV Bus.
We need bookings. (mightymagicpants.com)
We need your prayers most of all.
With God speaking to your heart, if you can help us with any of these needs please let us know. Mighty Magic Pants
What About Israel!?
While I read about Israel; traveling with Moses, being led by the presence of God in the form of a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, I find I’m disgusted by all the whining and complaining. Don’t you feel the same way? I mean, come on! Remember the plagues? Remember the Red Sea? Remember the biter water? Remember the mana? Remember . . . They don’t remember. They forgot to recall everything that God had done.
God is asking me to remember: I have not been a day without food and water; I’m not naked (you should be very great full); I have shelter; I have family- of which you are a part; I breath, feel, see, taste, hear, and smell- not bad, not yet! Are these not also miracles?
God asked me and my family to be missionaries to the USA. I know! Right! Well, as we pulled out of the driveway, in a beautiful RV, a double rainbow appeared; a group of morning doves escorted us down our street. NOT! Our Honda Odyssey was packed tighter than Walmart on Black Friday! You would not believe the amount of whining and complaining . . . Where are the snacks? How much longer? I’m hungry? Where are we going to stay tonight? That was just the beginning of the woe’s. The kids weren’t any better!
Why do we . . . I forget all the ways God has cared for me? Why does memory fail when there’s the slightest inconvenience?
In the book entitled “Beginning Of The End” I read this about me and Israel, “If they had had faith in Him, remembering all that He had done for them, they would have cheerfully accepted inconvenience, lack of food, and even real suffering. But they forgot the goodness and power of God . . .”
Blinded by their circumstances, they and I, lose faith and forget, or is it forget and lose faith.
Remembering seems to be a key. So, I will do my best to begin each day recalling the many ways God has blessed and lead me in the past. This is my Christmas gift to myself. Lets see what happens next.
I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them. (Hosea 11:4 NKJV)
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29 NKJV)
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! (Philippians 4:4 NKJV)
Thankful for a warm house and warm bed. But I’m most thankful for my wife and children! Me and Sammy are the only ones up, this frozen morning. With a minimal amount of help, he read me the story of Gideon. Very proud of him. A couple days ago Sammy’s tia came by and gave each of the children a small amount of cash. Sammy came smiling to me, “look daddy, I have two dollars! What can I get with two dollars?” Henry and I mentioned a couple things and Sammy’s smile got bigger. With all the joy of Christmas bubbling up inside and shining from his face, he says, “I’m gonna give Grandma and auntie Cindy a present!” He handmade cards in his little boy writing; some of the letters facing the wrong way. He placed a dollar in each one. He sealed it using a paper clip and some tape. His enthusiasm spilled over to Heidi who joined in making a card for grandma. He had the look of joy and accomplishment as he showed us his finished product. “Daddy, you’re squishing me!” He squeaked out from inside my hug.
I want to be like Sammy- so full of contagious joy.
I want to be like like my little ones- eager to give ALL because of LOVE. I want to be like Sammy- engulfed in my Fathers embrace.
Do Everything With Love.
(1 Corinthians 16:14 GW)
All the law and testimony hangs on this!
Blessings from Down Under
Here’s what God just did:
Sent a family from Australia, to share his love with us.
They had more trouble than usual during their travel. After 30hrs they finally made it to their hotel, Oxford Inn, Chico, CA. They were tired, but the kids wanted to go swimming. Mom, Donna, just wanted to go to sleep but acquiesced to the children and went to relax in the hot tub.
We left Grants Pass heading to Chico, CA to visit Larry and Mary Rose. Larry and I met at breakfast in Shasta a couple months earlier. He is a living historian in that his ancestors founded Roseburg, OR, with his Grate Grandfather being a wagon master on the Oregon trail. The family had personal visits from Chief Joseph. On Tuesday I had called to make arrangements to visit. We would be staying with them Wednesday night through Friday morning. They gave us their address and said to call when we exited 99. I’m thinking about the incredible opportunity for our homeschooled kids. I called the Rose family when we exited. Busy. I called when we pulled up in front of the house. Busy. Their was a locked fence between me and the door, so, I couldn’t knock. We waited a while and called a couple more times. Busy. It was getting late so we decided to get a hotel and find some food. As we drove back to the freeway we passed a Sprint Car racing event. The first two hotels were completely booked. I was directed to check Oxford Suits. Becky suggested I call ahead. CJ, the desk clerk, told us they had two rooms left and offered a discount. CJ then told me the room rate would be even better than quoted over the phone, as we checked in. I was feeling very bummed that we were not able to connect with the Rose’s, even entertaining the thought that we had been blown off by them. We had a bite to eat then kids were eager to go swimming. After playing in the pool, Becky and I made our way to the empty jacuzzi.
It wasn’t long before we were joined by Donna and kids. She shared that they had come for the races, and told of all the trials they had encountered. We were able to share our testimony and adventure for the past few months of missionary work. Donna then announced her understanding of all the delays they’ve endured getting from Australia to Chico, “I would be at the race right now with my husband instead of here meeting you. God had this all prearranged.” We enjoyed each others company till we were asked to leave, the pool was closing. Making our way to our rooms we found out that we were directly across the hall from each other. Again Donna said , “God had this planned, even for us to be neighbors.” We told her that Heidi had picked the room. Donna commented that Angels had been directing Heidi’s decision. Nobody was eager to leave the fellowship, however we were all very tired.
In the morning our family prepared to leave then decided to have one last swim before the 12 O-clock check out time. After the swim, I pulled up in front of the lobby to begin loading our stuff. Walking toward the lobby door I said hello to a man seated by the entrance. Noticing his accent, I asked where he was from. “Australia mate!”
Just then his boy walked up saying,” Oh good! You found him.” This was how I met Craig, Donna’s husband. Craig added that he had been knocking at my door an hour ago and had thought they had missed us, that we had already left. It was like meeting an old friend. We talked as though we were catching up from last time. Then Craig told me that they had decided to send our family to Lego Land for 5 days. (Last night in our conversation with Donna, she said they were going to Disney Land next and asked if we had taken the kids. We told them that we were headed home to Texas and would not make it to Disney this time. I added that we had hoped to go to Lego Land as it was Sammy’s most current birthday wish.) Upon hearing Craig’s comment, tears began to well up in my eyes. He said our wives were talking inside and that I should go talk to Becky.
Our families continued to have fellowship through lunch time. Truly it was a taste of heaven on earth. God had made a divine appointment for our two families to love and encourage each other. We are hoping to see them again in Southern California, before they head back to Australia.
Please pray for their safe travels.
Just A Prayer Away
We were leaving Seattle slightly depressed. Tent camping and the MINI-van were becoming very cramped. We had it in mind to start heading home to Texas. We felt like we needed to refresh, regroup, and find an RV. Before heading out, we prayed concerning a possible stop at the Singletary’s. After prayer we felt at peace to stop by and visit them. It had been fourteen years since we last saw each other so it was a grand reunion! Later we began sharing our story with them, about why we were in the northwest. As we talked about the ways in which God was leading us, they became more and more excited. Then, they began to share their conviction, to open a health/evangelistic clinic in downtown Vancouver. They extended a request for us to stay and help them, claiming God must have sent us and reunited us for this purpose. Lol! We decided to stay and pray with them about what to do next. The kids really enjoyed a break from the cramped van, and more so, having playmates. Their kids are the same ages as our kids. Fun. Fun. Fun!
When we first got here my pain was ignorable for the most part, so they had no idea of what I have been experiencing the last couple years. Then I had several bad days. During this time, Carol began investigating my symptoms which seemed very familiar to her. She had me look up CHIARI Malformation / Syringomyelia. I have at least 80% of the symptoms. Their little boy has this condition.
John also thinks I may have CHIARI Malformation/Syringomyelia. Look up csfinfo.org. There is an indication that it may be a genetic thing. It sounds very much like what my Dad has dealt with most of his life. Maybe even what my Uncle Eli has endured for many years. The foremost neurologist in the world, researching this condition, is in Seattle, at the University of Washington Medical Center. We are trying to get all my medical records, mri’s, etc. sent over. We will be here for a while finding out if this is what’s going on with me. We will have Sammy checked too because of similar issues. If this is what’s going on, there is a surgical procedure that can help relieve some of the symptoms. With surgery there would be a 6mo recovery/therapy period.
Everyone here is thinking maybe this is part of the reason for us ending up here. It is scary to think of surgery, but if we can help Sammy, and I can get rid of half the pain issues, it’d be wonderful.
A friend of theirs has offered to loan us a trailer to stay in while we find out what will happen next.
Please pray that we keep in God’s plan and not be distracted by these other things. (Not sure if that came out right. Hope you understand what I’m thinking.) I don’t want to lay down if I’m suppose to keep walking forward. Funny how pain has become part of my testimony?!
Amazing to think we were a prayer away from stoping by here. A prayer away, from so many blessings. A prayer away, from sharing the invitation to heaven with so many more of His children.
Anyway, thank you for your love and encouragement! It definitely helps us keep going!
Becky is growing tired if being away from home.
My sister needs to find work and home in Cleburne.
Still need RV to care for family.
Devine appointments to share God’s love with more families.
PS. We should/hope to know more about medical stuff in the next two weeks?
Love Takes Action
I had a somewhat disturbing dream this morning. I was with my little girl at a bank. I had several papers in my hand. Heidi’s hands were full too. As we waited in line, she would ask me to help hold items that required less of her attention. That’s when I noticed she had brought her mom’s makeup case. I saw her set it on the floor as we moved to the counter. I was about to tell her to pick it back up when the lady behind the counter asked what she could do to help me. I had a stack of cash in my hand with other papers and receipts. I fumbled through the mess as I sorted out the cash to deposit. Scanning the bills, I said it looked like thirty-five dollars. When I looked back down to check on my girl she was not there. I looked around and found she had moved over to the other side of me where there were some stuffed animals. I was relieved she had not wandered far. With the transaction finished, I called for her to grab her things and come with me. As we passed through the door, exiting the building, I checked to see that my companion was in tow. I could see that the makeup case was missing. My anxiety went through the roof!
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. (Romans 13:10 NLT)
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. (John 14:15 NKJV)
My wife had taken an old case and renewed it by redesigning and redecorating the interior. Now, Heidi and I, had lost it. We quickly returned to the place it had last been seen. As we searched for the case, we did not consider it improper to be on our hands and knees, crawling around, and looking under things. I was desperate to keep my wife from feeling loss, and just as eager to keep Heidi and I out of hot water. When I asked the lady for assistance she commented that she had not seen anything and couldn’t stop to help. Hmmm! Hadn’t she asked what she could do to help just moments ago? I was a little upset that no one seemed to care, and was becoming more upset at the thought that someone may have taken it. We looked and looked and kept looking.
Then God showed me; we remain an unaffected bystander without LOVE.
“But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. (Luke 6:32-35 NKJV)
God is LOVE! God The Father was in The Son, with The Holy Spirit seeking the lost.
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. (1 John 4:18 NLT)
It is love for my family that compelled me to action. Love removed fear of embarrassment, as we crawled around the floor. Love broke the chains of polite reserve that might prevent me from asking strangers for help.
Love Takes Action!
Sharing an invitation to our home with anyone and everyone who has ears. Our home is heaven.
I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd. (John 10:16 NLT)
